I have narcolepsy for many years already. I think you know that people with narcolepsy take short, regularly scheduled naps at times when they tend to feel sleepiest. The same is happening to me, so I was thinking could you tell me more about this problem of narcolepsy. What could I do to help myself because I cannot stand it any more? Did scientists make any new research about narcolepsy?

Improving the quality of nighttime sleep can help relieve persistent feelings of fatigue in patients of narcolepsy. Among the most important common sense measures people with narcolepsy can take to enhance sleep quality. These are actions such as maintaining a regular sleep schedule. You should also try to avoid alcohol and caffeine-containing beverages before bedtime. Unfortunately, none of the currently available medications enables people with narcolepsy to maintain consistently a fully normal state of alertness. The most disabling symptoms of this disorder can be controlled in most patients with specific drug treatment. Often the treatment regimen is modified as symptoms change, which is common situation. However, patients find that the symptoms tend to get worse over the two to three decades after the first symptoms appear. Many older patients find that some daytime symptoms decrease in severity after they are over 60 ages. Institutes of Health conduct research into narcolepsy and other sleep disorders in laboratories. These investigations and researches still lasts, so with every day doctors know more and more about narcolepsy.
