I have problems with my joints. They are swelled and very painful. It is not unusual symptom in my case. I have history or joints problems, but this time the pain is severe. My general practitioner sends me to rheumatologist. He is not certain do I have rheumatoid arthritis or lupus. What is rheumatoid arthritis and lupus link?

Yes, there are some tests that rheumatologist should do to determine is it rheumatoid arthritis or lupus. They are both autoimmune diseases which mean that immune system of body attacks its own cells and tissues. Both of these conditions affect joints. Generally symptoms of these two diseases are very similar. The thing you should know is that sun exposure helps rheumatoid arthritis and it can deteriorate lupus.
