Hi, I would like to ask some questions about rheumatoid arthritis. My grandmother suffers from it. I see every day how difficult it can be. Now my mother is feeling some discomfort in her wrists. I am afraid that it can be RA. Can you tell me what rheumatoid arthritis risk factors are?

There is high possibility that your mother has rheumatoid arthritis because it has tendency to run in families. It is associated with gene called HLA-DR4. Gene like that can make you more susceptible to an external trigger that sets off the disease. Women are also in higher risk then males. It is usually developed between the puberty and menopause. RA is improved during pregnancy because of modification of hormone levels.
