My daughter is 14 years old and I have noticed a small curve on her back, and she complains about the pain in the thoracic part of the spine when she is doing exercises at school. Could it be that she is having scoliosis? What are the main symptoms? Thank you in advance?

Hello! The most common symptoms are: head being off center, one hip or shoulder higher than the other, one may walk with a rolling gait, the opposite sides of the body do not appear level, back pain or tire easily during activities that require excessive trunk (chest and belly) movement. Most schools have screening programs that look for scoliosis. It is usually them who notice the problem and then let you know. In your case, you may make an appointment at the doctor’s office to have your child examined. The most common test is to have the child stand with his or her feet straight ahead and with knees locked and then slowly bend over to touch their toes.
