scrotum itch and redness

I have had for the past few months severe cracking and itching in the scrotum area. It is painful and I have tried cortisone, tinactin and other types of over the counter medical cremes.

Can anyone provide advice on what this might be and if I need to go to the doctor about it?

I would certainly see a doctor as the cortisone hasn’t helped. This may be fungal infection or contact dermatitis or eczema and it would be best if a dermatologist (not urologist) had a close look in order to distinguish these conditions and give you a proper treatment.

If you have been using a harsh washing detergent, your scrotal skin could be having reactions to this as well. It is quite possible that there is some bacterial infection present since you have cracking and they can get from skin through these cracks into the skin. So, you may need antibiotics as well.

It could also be jock itch, a fungal infection, very common in men. Fungus loves moist and warm area, and the scrotal area is just the place for them to grow. However, you said you already used Tinactin, which usually gets rid of jock itch and here’s a reason more to see a doc.
It is very hard to say much without seeing and examining, so like I have already said, I would have it checked.
