Hi all. I read somewhere that one study found that P24 antigen test couldn't identify 75 of infected sero-negative blood donors. Could you tell me what does this mean? Up to now I thought the P24 test was a very accurate test so now I’m wondering if it is possible to have negative test result even if you are sero negative?? Thanks for your comments.
Seronegative means that no HIV antibodies are present, or detectable. But, there is a chance that test can show a person to be seronegative, while it could be infected with HIV. This is exactly why re-testing after some time, like three months, is crucial. Now, the P24 test can be useful in detecting infection early, but however, it is not 100% accurate.
