I had laprascopic hernia surgery 11 days ago and am also still seeing alot of swelling and some pain in right testicle. Dr.'s office again does not seem very concerned - says it may take weeks to go away; but I am concerned. Anybody that previously posted here with same type problem -did it eventually clear up without further medical treatment?? How long did it take??

Hi,
I had an inguinal hernia repaired on my left side with open surgery 7 days ago. The day after the surgery I was just lying around with numbness in my abdomen and me taking more painkillers. 2 days later I started to get better and be on my feet a lot, though this gave me pain at night time and I had trouble sleeping. On the third night I woke up in agony (sharp stabbing pain) and noticed my girlfriend was stepping on me at the wound site. This worried me a little as it started to be painful once again the following day. Then I noticed that my spermatic chord running from my left side of the groin was tender and had definitely enlarged. This continued, until I was completely worried after researching possible problems on line which made me think I had testicular torsion (same similar symptoms everybody is talking about) and in need of surgery.
Well, I just got back from the doctor and he didn't even look but just told me that I had excess blood clotting in my testes and that the swelling would go away in 3 weeks.
Anyway sounds like we all have the same problem and I guess we are all still here right!!

Just had open hernia surgery four days ago. Scrotum is black at the botton and testes is swollen on same side as hernia. Skin is numb nest to cut. Sharp pains occassionally when sitting or trying to get in or out of car as passenger. Doc says normal. When will is get better? Anyone gone thru this and when does it get good enough to be almost normal again?

I just had a laproscopic hernia done two days ago. My right testicle is larger with a mass around it as mentioned above, and a strange bruise on the bottom of my scrotum. I was told beforehand by my Dr that there would be drainage and bruising as fluid drains into the scrotum and that this was normal. Kinda scary though. BTW, I had two incision hernias done years ago, the laproscopic was to repair an old one and is about 60% less painful...and much less shock to my body, I was getting up to the bathroom pretty easily after getting home.

PostPosted: 05/08/08 - 23:25    Post subject: ICE ICE ICE Vote now! Reply with quote

Everyone here needs to go out and buy very thin plastic bags about the size of your hernias and fill it will ice, put it directly on the hernia and it will reduce the swelling greatly for a few hours allowing you to do more things. My doctor told me it will take up to 8 weeks for all the fluid to be 100% gone but he also said he could drain it but my scrotum would just fill back up a few days later.

Ice is the only thing that works here so I suggest when going to bed sleep on your back and lay a fresh pack of crushed up ice onto directly on the swelled area!

I had an open inguinal hernia repair about 10 days ago. The first couple of days were very painful but little scrotum swelling. Third day, my scrotum swelled up with fluid and was about triple normal size. No pain, just uncomfortable. Doctor said this was very common and suggested keeping the scrotum raised at night by wearing briefs instead of boxers. In the morning the swelling was greatly reduced, but it just came back again after I was up for a while.
Finally at day 8 or 9, the swelling just went away.

Well it has now been just over 2 months since my lap. hernia repair. Swelling is now mostly gone but I still have pain in area at the top of and just above the scrotum. Surgeon says this can be a nerve (ilionguinal or iliohypogastric) problem and the best course is just to wait. Alternative is to cut the nerve which can cause numbness and other complications. Think if I was doing this over, I might of had surgery with open procedure.

I just has Open Surgery for an inguinal hernia 6 days ago. Like many of you I am having horrible pain in my left testicle. I noticed nothing the day of surgery and was even able to walk around, however it was crippling the day after surgery and I could not even stand up without wanting to double over. I am now on day 6 and am able to walk around and sit, however, I have to adjust myself when sitting or my testicle hurts bad and if I stand for any length of time the pain begins to increase. its hard to tell if its the testicle or the cords connected to it that hurt as my scrotum is still brused but I think its the cord causing most of the pain as if I touch it outside the range of the testicle it causes a ton of pain. I might try wearing briefs to see if the support helps. I dont have a follow up till next week but I hope this pain goes away before then. Its unbearable at times!
