Hello, I am a vegan for almost 12 years. Some of my friends recommended me to test myself on vitamin B12, as they read about its deficiency and nutritional problems. should I be tested for b12? What is the practical meaning of the test? How it is performed and what does the result means?

As you are vegan for years and as the only source of B12 is food fortified with B12 or B12 supplement, you should check your B12 level. Very low B12 intakes can lead to anaemia and nervous system disorders. Level of B12 can be tested in different ways with different accuracies (microbial assay, radioimmune assay, and test for intrinsic factor)
