My daughter was diagnosed with asthma when she was 3. She has been on Singulair 4mg. ever since. She's now 6 years old..let me tell you her story, it's terrible.
My daughter was the perfect little angel, I remember when people used to say.."wow, she's in the terrible two stage now huh?" And I said, "no, she's a little angel, no temper at all, listens, is polite, has great manners, etc." I used to get so many compliments about the way I raised her because of how thoughtful and well behaved she was. It made me feel great as a mom...she was my first!
After being on the medication for a couple of months, I noticed a HUGE difference in her overall behavior. She was so sensitive to the littlest things, she'd get very angry, sometimes so mad it scared me! She slammed doors, threw things...AT me sometimes, screamed some NOT SO NICE things to me and much more. This was NOT my child I had raised. As a parent I began to think what I did wrong all of a sudden.
Long story short....my daughter now 6, is acting the same way, worse now, she's so angry, depressed(telling me she doesn't like herself)that it frightens me and her little 3 month old brother, whom she's almost seriously injured 3 times for not being able to control her anger.
I'm so glad to hear that I'm not the only parent with a concern with this medication...I am definitely going to talk to her pediatrician about this and demand that she be put on something else.
If your child is showing any of the above signs, out of the blue, seriously consider talking to his/her doctor about it Smile

Thank you for these posts. My daycare provider had to call me yesterday because she just didn't know what to do with my 6 year old son. He has been on Singulair for asthma control since he was 3. We have noticed a marked difference in his behavior in the last 6 months or so. He has a blank stare when you try to talk to him, he has erratic, jumpy behavior, aggression, bad dreams. He exhibits most of these behaviors at daycare (more kids around, I'm guessing) and not so much at home as long as the environment is controlled. But he will have outbursts when things don't go his way. I was told that he needs to be disciplined better, but I knew that there was something else going on. He has always been sweet and loving- the cuddler of my two children. But lately he has turned into a little devil child that is not his nature and I'm really stuck on what to do. So I took him off singulair (only 2 days so far) to see if I notice any changes in his behavior. I'm going to call his dr. today and discuss other treatment. I actually really hope this is the reason for his change and that it can be resolved by stopping the drug.
Thanks for sharing your experiences, it has helped a lot!

My son, who is 5, has had a long time reaction to Singulair. Numerous side effects. Stomach pain. Leg Pain. Constipation. and many many more. Now recent behavior problems. Depression, anxiety, outbursts, and just being abnorma. He has been off of Singuliair 2 weeks. He is doing great. This drug does not work for everyone. Please be careful. It may be deadly

I was prescribed Singulair by a GP two months ago for seasonal allergies. I had a sinus infection which had been treated with an antibiotic but it wouldn't seem to go away. Doc said it was allergies and gave me Singulair. First three weeks were fine - symptoms disappeared. Then I began to get edgy, anxious, would have inappropriate outbursts, become very angry for no reason. Had the prescription refilled and asked the pharmacist about it and she told me that several people had trouble like the other posts on this blog. I stopped taking it, symptoms came back and am not taking Zyrtec. I have settled down and life is back to normal so I know it was the Singulair. Thank heavens for posts like this!

I was told there is no way Singulair could cause sleep problems with my child, so I've kept giving it to my 2 year old, who has horrible itching and allergies. But I finally gave up last night and started to google the drug and found this page. I'm taking him off it immediately. He can't sleep has horrible dreams and says he sees things at night. He sees birds and they scare him. At first I thought it was a phase, I can't believe all this trouble could be the drug.

I am an adult female and took Singulair for about a week. Note that I am usually a happy person with little or no regular anger or anxiety.

I was told to take it at night which led to sleep problems and odd anxiety filled awake periods. I decided to move to morning doses and my head was cloudy, I was having helpless feelings and thoughts and had unusual anger levels. I still had to use my inhaler as often as before although I had a generally better feeling in my chest.

I am not going to take this medicine again and am going to figure out an alternative...

I have had allergy shots since I was a kid. I've tried ALL the meds out there. Singulair is the only one that provides relief from the terrible, terrible pressure in my sinuses and nose. We're talking migraine-level pain that lasts for days and often weeks, and that radiates throughout my body. I've noticed an occasional moodiness that wears off after a few hours, but most of the time I'm actually much, much happier--I am pain free after years of suffering. One important thing to note: I am a small adult, so my doctor put me on the pediatric dose, and it's more than sufficient. So maybe lower doses could help some people who don't like the side effects of Singulair.

I just wanted to share my experience to let people know that for some people, Singulair is a good or even great solution. It might result in unacceptable side effects for others, but I thought I'd give the story of someone who is very grateful that this medicine exists. I feel like I can give my family and my job the energy they deserve and demand.

I came to this message board seeking info about Singulair withdrawal symptoms . Now, I am concerned about the affects of my son having taken it since he was 2. He is now 6 1/2. He is having terrible temper tantrums that go on for 2 hours and very angry. He won't know what set him off and what happened during his rages. We have also been having problems in school with behavior...mostly depressed-like, tired, and not willing to do his work. We have always had times of behavior problems with him, but since he started Singulair so early it is hard to remember if behavior issues started when he started Singulair.
Does anybody have any info in regard to coming off the Singulair after prolonged use? It seems the rages were increased for about 3-4 weeks after stopping singulair cold turkey.
FYI...I also had serious problems with Zyrtec..I noticed that immediately after first dose and I never put him back on it!! Very bad drug!!

The above thought is smart and doesn’t require any further addition. It’s perfect thought from my side
