sore fingertips

i am a 24 yr.old female. over the past few days i have noticed my fingertips were a little sore. now they are really sore red and very warm on the tips. can you tell me why my fingertips are this way?

My husband has diabetes and he often gets sore fingertips when checking his blood sugar.

Was there anything special that you did that could have provoked these symptoms? Did you chew your fingers for some reason or something like that?
