sporadic amyotrophic lateral sclerosis

Hi, my friend is 54 years old and he is suffering from ALS. He was diagnosed several weeks ago after he felt muscle weakness and difficulties to move his arm. When doctor told him what he is suffering from he also told it is sporadic amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. I would like to know something more about this.

Hi, ALS is neurological disease which affects upper and lower motor neuron. There are two forms of this disorder one is hereditary and it affects about 5-10% of patients with ALS. The other patients are suffering, like your friend, from sporadic form which means that there can't be found precise reason for this disease. Some scientists say it immune system which cause it.
