spotting and brown/blackish/red discharge

Ok I take birth control pills and did miss alot this month and I started spotiing a couple of days before my period was due and the blood was very light and red.Then after a day or 2 of that I stoped spotting completley than began to have a thick brown/blackish discharge sometimes it looks like it might have a little red blood mixed in to.I have never experinced anything like this before and dont think its an infection theres no smell or anything I also have been having light cramping like i NORMALLY do during my period.
