spotting while on birth control

I have been on the birth control patch, ortho evra, for almost a year. Just today i noticed some blood/ spotting in my underwear and i'm not supposed to have my period for about another 2 weeks. i've never had this hapen before and i am wondering if it could mean i'm pregnant. i was also wondering if leaving my patch on if i am pregnant will harm the baby or cause any problems. i was also wondering if being on birth control could give you a false positive on a pregnancy test. (i havent taken one) thanks.
