spotting while on the injection

I've been on the 3 month injection now for about 8 months. Recently i started spotting, its been 2 and a half weeks, somedays are light others are heavier, but i've had it everyday. I get mild cramps every so now and again. Does anyone have any idea what it could be, is this normal?
