I am 23yeras old male and recently while playing football I hurt my breast bone. I felt a lot of pain and hoped that it will go away. However, it did not and now I am afraid that it is broken. Can I get more info about sternum?

The first thing you need to do is to go to your doctor. He will be able to determine if you have sternum separation. The sternum or breast bone is a long, flat bone in the front of the chest and most of the ribs attach to it. They attach to the sternum with cartilage at sites called costochondral junctions. If you have experienced separation of a rib from the sternum, this is called a costochondral separation. It can occur as the result of a sports injury, usually due to excessive twisting of the trunk and this is very painfull as you already know. The pain increases especially when you breathe deeply, cough or sneeze. I hope that you will go to your doctor to get help, if not, this can lead to some complications. I hope you find this information useful.
