My mom has got steroid injection in the hip for the severe pain she’s been having. The rested whole day after, there was little numbness on the skin too. Why did they give her steroid injection?
An epidural steroid injection reduces the pain in most of the patients. They have to give her the shot directly to the painful area to help decrease inflammation. Spinal nerves can become inflamed due to irritation from a damaged disc or from contact with a bone spur and depending on which part of the lumbar spine the inflamed nerves are located in; pain may be experienced in the hip, buttock, or leg. Hip and leg pain are common symptoms when a patient has a pinched nerve in the lumbar area. She can use ice-packs for the numbness.
