stinging tongue

for one week i have noticed a stinging sensation on the bottom of my tongue....there are no visable sores but some numbness and when i use mouthwash or eat spicy foods for example it stings and burns....other than that i usally can't feel anything. Should i be alarmed?

The biggest problem with the burning tongue syndrome is that there are numbers of causes. So, by knowing just this symptom and without a thorough examination, nothing much can be said. You need to address an oral surgeon or a dentist.

They will have a close look at the tongue, mouth and throat to determine what it could be.

If you are smoking or taking certain medications, you are more likely to experience the burning symptom. Drugs that are linked to burning sensations in the mouth are hypertension drugs-diuretics, diabetes medications and even some otc products. Also, dental disease could be to blame.

Other reasons include anemia and iron deficiency, vitamin and mineral deficiency, diabetes, hormonal disorder, also anxiety.

You could have developed yeast infection in the mouth or having an allergic reaction to your tooth paste.

As you can see, the list of possible causes is very long. In order to find the cause, you need to include more info and have a thorough check-up.
