stomach pains /contractions after pregnancy

My wife has been suffering stomach pains for the last couple of days. These pains are very strong and at times unbearable. she gave birth to our daughter 5 days ago. she describes the pains as being very similiar to contractions. Is this a normal process in the bodies recovery after pregnancy?

Is this her first delivery? The more deliveries the woman has had the longer it will take for the uterus to heal. I am sure that they told her the nurse told her that she should message the uterus as many times as possible throughout the day to stimulate contractions. These pains are an indication that the uterus is contracting back to normal size. They also should have given her some time of pain meds. Like motrin or vicodin. Unfortunatley, these also make a woman constipated so make sure that she has some sort of stool softener like colace.

If on a scale of 1-10 - 10 being the worst pain - she is experiencing a 10 or more - she should report this to her doctor right away. She could have some clotting in which the doctor would remove them for her.
