stopped pill spotting how long ?

I have been on BC for about a year now. I switched brands 4 months ago and my new birth control has made me miserable. I have gained 15 lbs, I have unbearable moodswings and I find myself extremely emotional. It is starting to effect those around me. I got fed up after an emotional melt down this week and decided to stop taking the pills. I had taken 5 from the pack before I threw it out. About three days after I stopped taking my pills I began brown spotting and awful cramps but I just had my period about a week before! I have not been sexually active in about 1 1/2 weeks. I am just wondering if this is normal and how long is this spotting supposed to continue? Will I spot until I get my period at the end of this month? Can I do anything to stop the spotting? I pray it wont be more than a few days. HELP PLEASE! Crying or Very sad

Unfortunately you never can tell when the "withdrawal" symptoms would stop. Sometimes there aren't any, sometimes only minor spotting for a few days, sometimes severe symptoms for over 3 months......however, you never can tell how long they will persist.
