hello, my name is nicole. My story is kind of complicated, so I hope my questions can be answered. I am 15 years old and got my first period over a year ago. I menstruated again normally exactly a month later, and it lasted about 9 days. After the second menstruation, I began discharging. The discharge lasted for an ENTIRE year, non-stop. Some weeks it would be different consistancies. My period recently returned and lasted 11 days. Only 1 day after my period finally ended, i began discharging. I was just wondering if this pattern is normal. Am I supposed to discharge immedaitely after my period ends? Is discharging for an entire year, non-stop, normal? I asked my mom and she didn't have any answers. Please help! i'm worried something is wrong with me.

Hi there! One thing you forgot to mention. What kind of discharge is it? Is it bloody or clear/white?
If it’s bloody, it is certainly not normal and should see a gynecologist and try to find a causes of this spotting. If the discharge’s clear or white, it shouldn’t be much of a problem.
I would say that your periods are a bit longer than expected but this may be due to the fact that your period pattern may be still forming.
Is the discharge excessive or just present, so you find it annoying? Discharge is normal and it is secreted by the ovaries during ovulation (two weeks after the period), so that sperm could travel easier to the released egg. This has nothing to do with your current situation, I am just saying so that you would know.
Mucus is produced each day, and it carries out old cells that have lined the vagina, keeping it healthy. This kind of discharge is usually clear, milky and has no odor. Mucus discharge is also secreted when we are getting excited (masturbating or foreplay) in order to lubricate vagina and make it ready for an intercourse, because dry vagina and intercourse don’t work well together. I experience the most discharge during ovulation and slightly before my period but every girl is different and has different amounts of discharge.
However, if the discharge becomes so excessive that it starts bothering you, then you can ask your mom to follow you to the genitor-urinary clinic and check that out. |
