Posted: 04/22/07 - 17:27 Post subject: suboxone/oxycontin |
| Ive been taking oxycontin/oxycodone for the last 3 years. It seems however, that this last year was the worst because it was around that time I permanently altered my brain chemistry. By brain chemistry I am specifically referring to my dopamine levels being at an all time low, and my brain cannot "fix" the problem. So now ive beeng physically dependent for a while. Suboxone has improved my life significantly, Ive returned to college and now I can actually hold a job. However, suboxone has optimum effect only if you want to stop getting high because unlike methadone, it only acts on the two opiate receptors that inhibit withdrawal, and not on the third one which induces euphoria. Not to mention it also has a 4 to 1 ratio of narcotic to narcotic blocker meaning you can't get high even if you wanted to while your taking it. Regardless of other people's intentions and experiences, I have found suboxone to be truly a miracle in my life. |

I was using 24-30 10 mg hydrocodone pills per days for about 3 years. I tried to stop several times and know what withdrawal is like quitting cold turkey. No fun and it kept me on the stuff after i relapsed.........
I have been off the hydro since March and on suboxone. I am surprised to read some of the negative experiences with suboxone in this forum. So far suboxone has been a miracle solution for me. I was able to transition easily from my 30 hydros a day to 4 mg of suboxone. After a week i cut that in half to 2 mg (1/4 of 8 mg tablet) and recently cut that in half (I assume i am getting approx 1 mg of suboxone).
So I have not yet faced the withdrawals of having no suboxone but I am hopeful that it will be much easier than cold turkey from 30 hydrocodone a day!!!!
In my opinion the best thing about the suboxone is that it completely eliminated the craving of the hydrocodone and evens things out and lets you get on with your life. no more waking up and thinking about that first fix and how soon you can take it.
I wish everyone good luck and please share your experiences. so far this medication has made me feel like i did before i started abusing hydrocodone.......and i am hankful for it. this medication needs to be made more accessible and less expensive so more addicts can receive the benefits |

I have only been on it for a month and am begining to wonder if the cure is worse than the disease. Am having the nightmares, tiered most of the time, lack of focus at work, and my doctor, who is one of the original research docs on this , seems like some kind of fanatic,...like the mad doctor in a horror movie. |

| I just got out of a rehab after taking oxy for back pain. when i started to feel the detox of oxys, the suboxone worked great. the doc put me on 2mg every 2 hours the first day, then dropped it to 4 times a day for a couple days, then 2 times a day until i left. the day i left rehab, i felt great. it was a wednesday. then thursday, i felt chonically tired and had a headache. that was just the beginning of the worst three days of my life. i didn't sleep for 3 days, i had an unbelievable headache, and i kicked all night long, sweating and feeling like spiders were crawling under my skin. i had terrible anxiety and panic attacks, and was just fixated on how bad i felt every second. finally i called the rehab after reading this site. he had told me i wouldn't have cravings or WITHDRAWALS!!! man, was he wrong. i ended up feeling worse than coming off the oxys, but still spent ten grand going thru rehab. the doc wrote me a script for some more suboxone, and a half hour after i took it, i felt pretty normal. i recommend to anyone taking this stuff to ween off slowly and do not just stop taking it. it will be the worst decision you ever made!!!! and please let your doctor know that you DO WITHDRAW very badly when you stop taking suboxone. the only way these doctors are going to know is to be educated from patients like us. they all seem to think it is harmless as far as withdrawals. |

| i am 21 and have been getting saboxin for the past 10 mos to kick a 3 year heroin habit.Let me tell you in my opinion the is just as hard to kick as the heroin! only difference is a little cheaper and lasts longer for me anyways. i need my dose the second i wake up, i mean that second, if not body aches. specially stomach, watery eyes to the point i cant even see the tv, cant eat, cant concentrate. it is the worst thing i could have ever gotten involved with. im beginning to think the only way to get off is to get back on the dope and do it the right way-just take it 3 days or so. are there any other options or are we all forced to resort to old ways or suffer? gee what great options |

ive took up to 16 mg a day of suboxone since aug of 06...i finally realized
that shit was getting me no where. i was at the mercy of my money hungry doctor.... i finally decided that i was to good for that shit and my life and self respect was to important to trade for those pills anymore...i tapered my own dosage for about 2 months with out telling my doctor.. and as of last thursday morning(today is tuesday) i have been suboxone free.. the first 48 hrs was hell to get through but i tried to look at the light of the end of the tunnel... everytime i wanted to go get me one i would think about all the money i spend on these things( doctors visit is 200 monthly not counting the prescript...) i would think about my family and all the people that i have let down ect...(these things deaden pain and they also deaden ur emotions) so be ready to deal with em when u are free from the suboxone... every day i feel better and i feel like doing things that i did not feel like doing the day before.. im going to my monthly appointment even though im suboxone free... why waist 200 dollars u ask? this month when i go in im going to tell him he can take his medicine and do whatever with it and he isnt taking my money anymore..im ready to be in control of my life again. |

I have been on suboxone since Dec. 2003. Suboxone saved my life. Before suboxone, my life was a living hell. I'd do anything not to get dope sick.
The doctor's have weaned me off 3 different times and the withdrawls are so bad I go back to using. I've even gone down 1mg per month and when I stopped it took 48hrs. for withdrawls to start-heart pounding, unable to eat, skin crawling, etc.
I want to be on suboxone the rest of my life. I have so much to lose. I think I finally found a doctor that will keep me on as long as I need.
Suboxone has been the biggest blessing as well as a nightmare in my life. |
