For a few years, I have been experiencing very infrequent shooting pain down the right side of my head. Sometimes it happens 2 or 3 times a week and then I might not feel it again for a few weeks or months. It can happen at any time of the day. The pain only lasts for a second or two and it travels down the right side of my head from just above my ear to just below it. Sometimes it is just a tingling sensation and other times it is a very intense, but quick, pain. I don't have any other symptoms and I am a healthy, active 41 year old female. I asked my doctor about this a while ago and she didn't seem very concerned. She offered to send me for an x-ray but I declined. However, lately I am worried about what this could possibly be. Thank you.

I've been having the same pains but they are on the left side. Pain level is about a one, but annoyance level is a 5!!! Sometimes I have the shooting pains off and on for a couple of hours, sometimes with long breaks, sometimes pretty close together. It's drving me crazy and giving me anxiety, but I'm thinking it might be a nerve.

My shooting pains are on the left side, right around my temple and towards the back of my ear but a little higher.

I wonder if it has anything to do with stress.

I have the same problem. However, it seems to be more frequent, and during the healing of colds. Right now, I'm overcoming pneumonia, and when the medicine starts wearing off, in comes the shooting pain. At times I've wondered if it was due to tightness of sinues as some times it comes when I take to much vitamin E and dry out in the head. Not very scientific. But I'm glad that both of you have recorded the same symptoms. I know I'm not alone.

I have a similar pain that comes real fast on the top of my head, feels like a quick contraction type pain or something knots up for a quick second, scares me, i might get it once a week, or month or go by and it will come, i can be laughing or working or doing something and it comes. Dr. says it can be menopause stuff. but I don't think so. I been like this now for about 6mo So I guess I will be calling the Dr. Again, I think having a MRI or X-Ray, or Scan would help knowing there is nothing wrong, you might want to get that done if your Dr is willing to offer that to you, Good Luck

Hello!
My shooting pain just started today. In the last few days, I started drinking Vitamin Water. I stopped today maybe it's related to the vitamin water. Intervals: From 10am to noon, I had probably around 10 shooting "pain" problems that lasted one second. I took naproxen at one pm. Around 5pm, the shooting "pain"started again . I had around 10 and now, it's 8pm and it started again..My pain is around my right forehead. More like behind eye/ear. The whole area infront of my forehead feels weird and i can sense some ringing in my right ear. I contacted the neurosurgeon's office today. They will get back to me tomorrow. I am 28 and had a brain aneurysm this past summer. It could be related to the surgery but i did not have it in the past and the surgery was 9 months ago.

Kamil.

I have seen alot of post concerning shooting pains in the brain. For the person who posted about pains and having surgery 9 months ago for an aneurysm, I don't know where your aneurysm was, but I had my surgery 11 years ago and the head pain never goes away.

Shooting pain is caused primarily in changes from the brain function caused by injury or illness. Sinus problems can cause shooting pain, as can ear infections, misaligned spines, neck injuries from car wrecks and just picking up your kids.

As you get older, the brain is shrinking and shooting pains can become part of the daily return of pain throughout your body.

The main thing is to not fear the pain. Do not let it take over. One of the best remedies I found for them is to set in a big chair with alot of pillows, turn on some quiet music and close your eyes and breath deeply, concentrating on the music. The pain will still be there, but your anxiety and fear will not. And you will learn how to control the pain threshhold in time.

Although I still have shooting pain and massive headaches daily, I have learned to not be afraid and just breath.

PostPosted: 04/26/07 - 18:17    Post subject: Shooting pains related to Vitamins? Vote now! Reply with quote

I have been experiencing similar shooting pains for the last few weeks. My pains seem to start behind the upper right part of my nose and go behind my right eye to above my forehead. They last for an instant are not intensely painful but are bothersome. They happened the most to me a few minutes ago when I was bending over to grab laundry and hang it up. It seemed like after I stood up it would occur. The post about vitamin water sparked my interest especially because I just bought Diet Coke Plus to try and it has vitamins and minerals in it. This could be the connection for me. The other possibilities I saw presented were sinus pressure, nerve pressure, and post surgery. The link between Vitamins and the shooting pains seems most likely for me because I've never had sinus problems like this before and never had surgery. Nerve pressure could be a possibility as well. I ran out of the Coke Plus so hopefully the pains will go away too. (Also, I drink caffeine everyday and that doesn't seem to have anything to do with this.) Thanks everyone for posting your experiences.

PostPosted: 11/07/07 - 21:15    Post subject: sharp pain in head Vote now! Reply with quote

I have been having the sharp pain on the right side of my head for a few years. It feels as if I was being stabed in the head. It stops me dead in my tracks when it occures. I have no idea why I have been getting these. I have tried to keep track of everything that I intake and I have still not found it to be a food or drink. It happens for no reason, even if I'm just sitting relaxing, it will happen and first thing I do is grab my head. Anyone have any suggestions? Sad
