I have to carry suprapubic catheter for a couple of weeks. I know that some people who had catheters have got urinary infections. Some of them have problems with bladder months after. How can I prevent this?
In order to prevent urinary infections and encourage drainage, you should drink lots of fluid. I think you need about 2 - 3 liters a day. Water or fruit juice is often recommended. Especially cranberry juice as this can help prevent bladder infections. Take care of personal hygiene. Anyway I have heard that suprapubic catheters are much safer form of long-term catheterization than indwelling urethral catheters.
