Does this happen only when you are holding a heavy bag for some time? Because if it does, then it is perfectly normal because it happens to me too and then I have to change hands until I arrive home. I hate that!
What happens is that you cut blood supply with the bag handles on couple of places and you usually cut parts of fingers on two sides, the blood that exists between these two strong pressures accumulates and it gets swollen and the skin may become hard.
The burning and stinging is from putting too much pressure on the skin. This is how I see things.
Anyway, if you happen to experience these problems without anything causing pressure on your fingers, just like that, out of the blue, then you should certainly see a doc and have it checked to see if there’s an underlying condition. |

| I have this exact problem and its not just when i hold plastic bags, that just makes the problem worse. it also regularly happens when i am walking for more than 15 mins and is especially bad in the cold weather. i have no idea what causes this but would be extremely greatfull if anyone could shed any light on this as it can be painfull, i know i am anemic, could the two be related? |

| I HAVE HAD THE SAME THING GOING ON FOR ABOUT A YEAR AND A HALF. STARTED OUT WITH A FINGER TIP, THEN MULTIPLE FINGERS, THEN PARTS OF A FOOT, THEN INTO BOTH FEET, THEN UP TO MY LEFT PALM, THEN TOP OF RIGHT HAND. NO GUESSING WHERE IT WANTS TO SHOW ITSELF...EXCEPT TO SAY IT'S HANDS AND FEET. ITCH SO BAD THAT I CAN'T FIND ANYTHING COARSE ENOUGH TO SCRATCH WITH THEN WITHIN MINUTES TURNS SO RED AND SWOLLEN (IF NOT SWOLLEN BEFORE) THAT I CANNOT TOUCH THE SPOT. BLOOD TESTS: NEGATIVE. ALLERGY TESTS: NEGATIVE. THE FEW DOCTORS I HAVE SEEN OR TALKED TO SAY THEY HAVE NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE IT. IT KIND OF MAKES YOU WONDER HOW MUCH WE ACTUALLY KNOW ABOUT? ANYWAY, I HAVE READ ALL THE COMMENTS SO FAR ON THIS WEBSITE. IF I WANT TO DIAGNOSE MYSELF I COULD HAVE LUPUS, DIABETES, ARTHRITIS, DRINKING BAD WATER OR ADVERSE REACTION TO WATER OR SOME FORM OF AN ALLERGY THAT KNOW ONE IS AWARE OF. I'D REALLY LIKE TO KNOW IF ANYTHING ELSE HAS COME UP IN THE LAST SEVERAL MONTHS. |
