Hello there! Have you already seen a doctor about the problem? Nothing can be said by stating just two symptoms.
It is very important to say if you suffer/ed from any medical problems.
How long has the swelling been present? At what part of the left side of your abdomen is the swelling? Is it always present? When does the back pain appear? What is the back pain like (constant, occasional, throbbing, sharp, mild, etc)? How old are you? Are you male/female? Had anything like this before?
Knowing some of these facts could help think of what it could be but you can’t be diagnosed like this. You won’t know for sure until you see a GP.

Im 23 male..iv been experiencing this pain on my left side.i feel this early in the morning sometimes evening.is this becoz im only hungry? or it has sumthing to do with my colon? u see im working 6am in the morning and i feel like i hv a diarrhea but after work i dont feel it anymore..i guess its im just tense in work.what do u think is the reason of the pain on the left side?
