swollen, tender breasts, 75% of time

last month, 2 weeks before my period was due, my breasts both became very swollen and painfull. This along with mild nausea, extreme emotional swings and the fact that I had had unprotected sex twice made me believe I was pregnant.
A pregnancy test was negative, and my period came a couple of days later than predicted, and was if anything, heavier and longer then usual.
The pain, nausea etc went after my period finished, but a week later, it is back, as if in preparation for my next period, in 2 weeks time.
I have done my research on water retention, I am drinking plenty of water and urinating lots (which is normal for me). My diet has not changed (I am gluten intollerent and eat relatively healthily) I am a healthy weight (5"2, 130 pounds) I exercise every day, dont smoke, drink regularly (but this has not changed) I drink maybe one cup of coffee a day (I am aware caffiene can lead to water retention but this is a very reduced caffiene consumption compared to before, when my breasts did not hurt), I rarely eat chocolate.
I am not on the contraceptive pill and have not been in about 5 years - I tryed many different types over a course of years and they all made me overly emotional and I bled continuously.
please give me any suggestions you have for me to sort this out. I am sick of wearing a sports bra every single day and my emotions are very random and extreme. It is very hard to explain to my partner why I
have suddenly started to bawl my eyes out after having sex (although he is very good at calming me down!)
