swollen tonsils but no fever

Just one day ago I developed what I thought was just a sore throat.
It is so painful to swallow. I saw that only the left tonsil was swollen and very red. It seems to have lumps on it now. Again, I want to say it is so very painful to swallow. Today I feel that my ear is started to get clogged up. I started yesterday with gargling and snorting up salt water solution. I also to a otc sinus med and Aleve to ease the pain. No relief.
Is this strep? I have had absolutely no fever. Will it help to go to doc or should I tough it out? Can a md help me? Thanks!
