I just recovered form Pluresy a couple of months ago. My doctor said that it is usually viral. But she gave me Ketek (which is under scrutiny right now) and a Medrol dose pack(steriod). I dont think it helped at all. I think you just have to tough it out but I know how painful it is.

I was just diagnosed with Pluerisey. It is a virus caused from a bad cold and/or the flue. It causes the linings of the lungs to become inflamed, fill with air and fluid. Making it very hard to breath and cough. Usually occuring on one side of your chest. My doctor prescribed three presciptions. HYDROCODONE, NAPROXEN AND PREDNISONE. Also try using Vick's Vapor Rub Creme to the sore area along with a heating pad. I have been on these meds for a few days now and it is working along with the heating pad. Drink plenty of fluids and get a lot of rest. It will take any where from a few days to about 2 weeks to get over this. Thank god for the pain pills as you can tell when they wear off! I have been home sice for about 4 days now. It is getting better, but believe me it still hurts to breath and cough. It just takes time. You will know you have this when you have a sharp, stabbing pain to one side of your chest and can hurt all the way around into your shoulder blade. It feel's as though someone is stabbing you with a knife in your rib cage and just digging around it with the knife. I hope this helps anyone who may experience this painful virus. Don't wait to seek medical attention. It will just get worse and longer to recover.
