i mjust had one more ? about all of this. Before the operation i was expecting the pain to be alot worse than it is. dont get me wrong it still hurts, but i could still talk and eat some foods, and humm some tunes sometimes and this is all on the third day. i keep reading everyone elses concerns and they are all saying they are throwing up and gowing back into the hospital and not talking. i could talk and the pain medication is fine. but i am only 19, it could just be because im younger, but my ? is should i be taking it much easier even though im not in that much pain?
I'm 40 and a mom of two toddlers, I had my tonsillectomy 11 days ago .....I was talking and vacuuming the house on the first day. I ate ramen noodles the second day and haven't slowed down much. I had some pain and some less than enjoyable moments, but with the pain meds I kept that at a minimum and just stayed active. It seemed to me that the pain decreased with each meal I ate. Last night I had corn on the cob and a grilled hamburger!!
I wouldn't worry about over doing it. I think the pain will limit what you can do. Since the vocal chords are not really associated with the tonsils, I don't think talking too much is a problem. With two small kids I had to keep talking, although I did find that I couldn't raise my voice sometimes.
Good luck, I hope you are feeling better. Keep drinking water.
