I would like to ask something. I have a teen daughter. She is 18 years old. Recently she went to gynecologist. After some testing doctor has made diagnose. She has HPV. She had no symptoms or difficulties, she has just went on regular check. Tell me can it be transmitted other ways then sexual. Also I would like to know how dangerous it can be.
HPV is infection of the skin and the mucous membranes. It can be transmitted either sexually or environmentally. It means that you can be infected only by using the same bathroom with the infected person. It usually doesn't show any noticeable symptoms but some types can cause genital warts. It can also cause development of cervical dyskaryosis which can lead to cancer of cervix. But there is HPV vaccine that can reduce the risk of cancer.
