I do pedicure in a nursing home what causes the thing yellow toenails and what can I do besides file? I am tempted to cut it off but it's too thick. It's almost too gross at times. It's really hard to cut the length of the nail also. Question [/code]

Hi

I checked this out for you and this is a symptom of a fungus and you need to see a podiatrist to have it treated with medication

Feel better soon

Yeah, thats a typical sign of a nail fungus. True, you can get it treated by a podiatrist, but you can also treat it yourself with an over-the-counter medicine which is made especially for this type of thing. I have heard of several alternative methods of taking care of this, such as using Tea Tree Oil, soaking them in Listerine mouthwash, and I've heard that using Vicks Vapor Rub works really well on toenail fungus. Try one or more of them out if you feel it may help you out. Or go to a doctor. Its up to you. Either way, its going to take some time to heal this. It is not something that can be fixed overnight.
Good luck
