thorasic mid back pain and breathing

its in my mid back on the left and if i bend or turn it shoots throught to the front but i can barely breath and it hurts like hell ... and it happened once before and i thought i was going to die when i layed down on my side it was unbearable, flat on my back was a little easier but i thought i was having a heart attack or something ... no clue yet as to what could be causing this any suggestions .....

Same exact pain, heart attach feeling and sharp shooting pain. Mine starts by left shoulder blade near spine and causes a stabbing pain before spreading to chest, etc.
I'm going to a chiro because I too believe it's a rib to spine problem as MRI's only rule out pinched nerves in the spine, not outside of it.
But also am going to get a Standup MRI of mid spine as a condition called destablized Spine could exist, meaning it can't handle the upper body weight, and cause problems while standing or even sitting. Lay down MRI's will most likely miss it.
The heart attack feeling and breathing feeling I believe is being caused by a pinched nerve, as when my back is relaxed, it happens alot, even making shoulders and arms weak, and headaches. But when my back is all spasm and rigid, no movement occurs so it doesn't happen that much.

It is a long painful journy as many musculoskeletal specialist are not educated in this area, chiro's can feel it. One highly recommended musuloskeletal even said it's an area injuries are not very likely to occur, and that was after I informed him of crashing into a parked car left rib cage first. Most likely they are more of a common sports musculoskeletal injuries specialists, not all around types.

Hi all, im 24 and was diagnosed with Degenerative Disc Disease at 19, it took 5 docs appointment to finally get a ortho referal and an MRI which showed my discs dying and prolapsing, i have sciatica and for a good 6 months was in a type of pain i cant even describe. I can only advise that you dont take painkillers if you dont know your diagnosis - they only mask the pain & your body is trying to tell you something important with some pains (ie - dont bend down that far)... I have been working in hospitals & social care for 6 years and am now an Occupational Therapy student and met lots of people with this condition that had the disc surgery & i can honestly say, no matter how bad the pain gets I WILL NEVER HAVE IT, these people had more problems nerve/spinal chord/range of movement wise & said they regreted. I am now waiting a 2nd MRI as i am now habving pain in my arms, been told ny neuro its possible Thoracic outlet syndrome, (although im having sympotoms for MS which im terrrified of).... so - be persistant with the Doctors, from working in the 'inside' so to speak, i know how busy they are & the younger you are the more difficult to be heard, dont act nervous when you have an appointment, be direct as to where your pain is, TELL THEM WHATS WHAT.

I´m having this annoying left upper back pain and difficulty breathing like some of you here. I just thought we could share experiences, for they haven´t been able to find what´s wrong with me.

Not completely on- or off-topic, but I've suffered from lower back pain for a considerable length of time now, and my sleeping patterns were really suffering. On doctors orders, I bought a memory foam mattress as these are meant to be really good for easing back pain at night. The mattress moulds around the shape of your body and also accounts for any movements you may make during the night.

I sound a lot like you guys. Have been to way too many doctors, but finally got one to give me an MRI. I got a copy on CD and looked at it myself and saw at least two herniated discs. One in the cervical region and the other in the Thoracic region. Have had all the heart tests because this highly resembled a heart attack. Everything checked out normal. Still waiting to hear from my doctor for the "official" diagnosis, but you can't help but see the herniations, nor feel them! It also looks like my spine is starting to deteriorate. Crying or Very sad

I love horseback riding so I hope this doesn't keep me from it. I have gone ahead and scheduled a consult with a neurosurgeon for this next week. I at least need to know what activities I can safely do while in this predicament. Confused
