I HAVE BEEN MENSTRATING FOR THE PAST THREE WEEKS. MY BODY IS WEAK AND ONLY NOW, AFTER THREE WEEKS ARE MY BREASTS BEGINNING TO GET TENDER. IT LOOKS LIKE THIS WILL CONTINUE THROUGH THIS WEEK. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME THAT THIS IS HAPPENING. WHAT COULD BE THE CAUSE OF THIS AND WHAT IS THIS CALLED?

Prolonged and heavy periods are called menorrhagia. What you are experiencing is not normal and you should see a gynecologist for an evaluation. You didn’t say how old you were or if you had any procedures done?

Here are some of the reasons that could be causing your prolonged bleeding.
You should know that a 10-day period is called menorrhagia, not to mention 21 days.

80 to 90% of all prolonged menstrual bleedings are hormonal imbalance along with development of uterine fibroids. Uterine fibroids are benign growths inside the uterus that can cause symptoms like prolonged bleedings.

Other possible causes could be cervical or uterine polyps. They as well as fibroids occur in women of child bearing age. Both of growth are benign.
Dysfunction of the ovaries and development of cysts in the ovaries could also cause bleedings similar to yours.

However, it could be cancer as well, it could be certain medications, etc

Are you using any contraceptives? Intrauterine device used as a contraceptive may cause prolonged periods!

I would advise you to get checked as soon as possible!
