I catch a cold last week. Most of symptoms were common except burning of my throat. My friend explained to me that it was because my nose was plugged. That disables me to breathe trough nose. Never the less I still wonder what real cause of my sore throat was. Cold or nose?
Probably your throat burning was caused by both, cold and plugged nose. Anyway, your cold was viral, I suppose. The virus caused swelling of mucosa in your throat and nose. Because of that you have experienced that burning you were writing about. Hot tea and some honey will be the best cure for you.
