Like everyone else said, it sounds like symptoms of anxiety. I get very similar symptoms to the ones you described when I'm anxious/panicky.

I can't beleive it! I've never heard of anyone who gets the throat/heart/ear flutters! I really thought I was the only one! I have OCD/Panic Disorder but mine manifests itself a little differently than the typical cases. I only get OCD and panic over these weird symptoms. If I get an ear flutter (it happened all day today) I go into a full panic attack because it scares me and I have an irrational fear that it will never go away. I've battled these strange thoughts since I was a very small child.(I'm almost 30 now). I now take Zoloft and Clonapin (as needed). I just went to the doctor today b.c I was hearing/feeling fluttering in my left ear all day. I have just gotten over a cold with post nasal drip. The doctor said it's probably the eustachian tube in my inner ear is inflamed due to the cold or allergies. She prescribed nasal spray and Claritan. We'll see if it works. PLease, if anyone ever wants to talk, email me: nycurlz@hotmail.com

Hi, I too have been experience the same symptons. Flutters in my Chest and throat, dizziness, nausea, shaking, and every now and then the feeling will become more sharp and shoot right up my throat, though this generally only lasts a few seconds, I completely freak out about it, thinking my hearts about to stop.
My mum actually suffered a het attack, and so obviously it concerns me greatly.
The first time I had the problem, only about 3 months ago, I drove myself into the hospital, where they gave me an EKG and blood tests, and then sent me home and told me I had reflux. (which was definately not the case). I spent the next two days in bed not being able to walk to the bathroom without almost passing out.
I have had it two times since, and I actually thought it may have been connected to the smoke in the air, where I am in Aus, we have had some bush fires, and more recently the farmers have been burning off. All three times I suffered the flutters was when the air was smoky, but I dunno, maybe its just a coincidence?
I have never suffered from anxiety, and the only time I feel anxious is when I get the pain, so I'm really not sure if it is anxiety.
Has anyone else with similar symptoms been successfully diagnosed with anything else? Would be very interested to hear about it.

I've just recently started having those types of symptoms. My chest will tighten it feels like my heart is the one tightening then the weird heart beats start. At first i was getting real bad cold sweats and feeling like i had to throw up or go dump. The back of my throat will feel closed up making it hard to breathe, making me extremely uncomfortable. the only time i feel really good is in the morning for about the first two hours after i wake up. Then it starts again, this just barely started for me, I'm 22 this started on Sunday it is now Friday i thought it might just go away eventually but so far it hasn't. I'm getting a little used to it but i sure wouldnt like to live with this forever. I havent been to a doctor yet im in the military and we have to see our doctors before we can see a civilian doctor and I trust our doctors about as far as i can throw them. The most likely case is they'll tell me to take some motrin and I'll be alright. The bright side to all of this is so far this has got me to stop drinking and smoking and i plan on keeping it that way. It scares the hell out of me

I have experienced most everything described here. I also have gone into atrial fibrillation though. My anxiety, heart flutters, etc. are ALL caused by drinking alcohol. I am an alcoholic and after binges, everything is horrible. So, my advice for anyone concerned about some of these issues being discussed, make sure to stay away from alcohol.

hi, i am a 24 yr old female and i have been a vegetarian for 5 years. i consider my self to be in pretty good shape. in this past year and a half i have been to the emergency twice over panic attacks and i recently began feeling like my heart is fluttering and pain in my chest. the doctors did full blood tests, a chest x-ray, and a resting ekg and everything seemed normal. i have high blood pressure for some reason that no one can seem to explain to me, so i am taking atenolol for that and i have heart disease that runs in my family. the docors and cardiologist insist it is all due to anxiety but i am just scarred to death that my symptoms are not getting any better with breathing excercises. before this past year and a half i have never had anxiety and till this day people consider me the calm, happy one in the group. little do they know that often i feel like running out of the room from how uncomfortable my chest feels. i am scarred that the doctors may be rulling out the symptoms because of my young age and that there may be some deeper reason for all my pains. i dont know if the pains are causing anxiety or whether the anxiety is causing the pains. my blood pressure monitor detects an irregular heart beat about half the time i check myself. should i be concerned?

Every symptom here I have experienced at one time or another. Ive been to cardiologists, numerous tests - all the tests are negative - everything is normal. Ive had brain scans, you name it. Everything is normal.

What you are describing is most likely a typical panic reaction. It is utterly normal. I know it is scary, Ive dealt with this for over 15 years now but there is nothing wrong with you. It is just panic.

I strongly urge anyone taking meds to look for oter alternatives to dealing with anxiety and panic. I went that drug route myself and in 7 months became addicted to Xanx. I was taking far less than the prescribed dosage and STILL became addicted. It took 6 months to wean off them and it was NO fun. Anxiety symptoms were WAY worse coming off them then ever. PLEASE be very very careful with benzodiazapenes. ( Xanax, Ativan, Valium, etc...) Those drugs are BAD news and way over prescribed.

The only way to recover from Panic and Anxiety is to get at the root causes and deal with those. We are all suffering from panic and anxiety not because of some physical illness but because of dysfunctional life crcumstances. Deal with that, and you conquer panic.

I am now doing much better. I go for a Reiki treatment every 2 weeks which helps enormously and also therapy. Im not afraid of panic anymore and do not let it rule me.

This site is enormously helpful as well

You CAN be cured from anxiety and panic and you DO NOT have to do it with drugs. Drugs will help, no question - but it will never FIX the problem.

Well, firstly its not just America! I'm born Scottish and live in England and have been suffering with anxiety and panic for the last 16 years or so. All after a prolonged spell of cannabis and magic mushrooms which resulted in a bad trip and the beginning of what can sometimes be hell!! I live with it every day, though most days are not too bad. Lately though due probably to too much work, lots of coffee and not enough sleep, the attacks are really getting me down. Flutters in my chest, strong extra heart beats, dizziness, sore throat, feeling like there's something in my chest that's too big to be in there, and the most intense fear. I am 34, male and fairly successful by most counts. I've heard Cognitive Behavioural Therapy can be really effective, so am going to give it a go. Look it up too, it might prove more effective than drugs. Best to everyone.

Hi....I realize that I'm extremely late in replying to this, but I was wondering if you have had your thyroid checked recently? Not just your TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone). If not you should ask your physician to test your thyroid. A lot of your symptoms could be related to an over or under active thyroid. Request the following tests:

TSH
TPO (Thyroid Peroxidase Antibodies)
TSI
Free T3
Free T4

I've had heart and throat flutters since I was in my teens, probably 14 or 15 and I also had my first panic attack at 16. But, while the flutters have continued, sometimes followed by a cold sweat and general malaise, which I attribute to mild anxiety, the panic attacks have been pretty much under control since I was 20. I am now 38. Panic attacks can be managed without medication. But, medication is helpful for some. Unfortunately, all medications made my symptoms worse. I use simple techniques to deal with anxiety that have prevented me from getting a full panic attack for 18 years. I basically acknowledge the anxiety coming on, take deep breaths, sometimes, I close my eyes, and reassure myself that I am not going to die - even when my heart is beating fast. The key is to not fight the anxiety. But, to go with it. It is hard at the beginning, but it eventually works. It is also important to keep doing things that you think may trigger anxiety. I took a trip to Europe at 20 to prove to myself that the panic attacks for conquered! And it changed my life. I had mild anxiety, but no panic attacks even though I was completely by myself thousands of miles away from home. I also exercise a lot, which helps me to relax. Good luck to everyone.
