throat pain on right side

I have a pain on the right side of my throat about two inches below my jaw. It hurts when I swallow or put pressure on it, otherwise I feel perfectly healthy. I was told I have a slow thyroid a year ago but chose not take any meds because I had no symptoms. Could these be related?
