What doses of tivan are recommended in elderly people, over 60, in treatment of alcohol withdrawal symptoms? How should this medication be used? Can it really keep under control condition like delirium tremens? How this medication works and do you know the persons that found it helpful in this type of problem? Please post about tivan, I need more information.

Treatment of alcohol withdrawal symptoms is just one of the indications of ativan. It is actually anti-anxiety medication that is used in treatment of agitation, irritability, insomnia, mania and has calming effect when used as sedative prior to surgery. It has less effect on liver then other drugs from the same group. Ativan is lorazepam, drug that belongs to the same class with diazepam, temazepam and other benzodiazepines. Doses that are recommended for elderly patients, over 60 years should not be higher than 2mg daily. Usually 0.5 to 1 mg tablets are used. This drug shows its full benefits in first week of use.
