My son is only three and is already experiencing errections. I have never been around boys ( I have 2 younger sisters), so I don’t know much about this. I suppose it is normal but he often gets his erected penis out of his pants, shows it to me and says it hurts. I don’t know what to do! Should I take him to a doctor?

Erection is children is quite normal. My son also had them when he was a toddler. He would have them at least 2 times a day, and I think it was amusing for him. As for the erection, you should not worry. However, if he complains that they are painful, then you should definitely tell this to his doctor.

I agree with mule. Erections are normal, at any age. They can result from full bladder or bowels, which puts pressure on the prostate gland.
We would need more specific information on how "it hurts", to be helpful. He may have phimosis, and the erect penis is trying to free the "stuck" foreskin from the head underneath. There is treatment for that. |

| If you've had your son circumcised it's more likely he's having problems with that. Scar tissue doesn't stretch and because the forskin becomes part of the penis that could be the problem. As an adult I have dated 2 men who have the same problem, they have painful erections with the pain steming from the ring of scar tissue where their foreskins used to be. Anyway you should still bring it up at his pediaticians office. |

| I don't think young boys should have that problem. I did however and it was likely caused by sexual abuse. It did hurt for me. If possible get help from a doctor. |
