My son is 22 months old and has had alot of trouble with high fever, rash and sore throut all caused by infection. WE have been to the doctor with a new infection every two weeks since Febuary of this year. We have tried 5 different antibiotics and are have no sucess of killing the underlying bacteria causeing the infections. He is scedualed for surgery next week to have his tonsils and adnoids taken out. I am having a little trouble getting my husband to agree to the surgery because of the age of our son. Is there any reason we should wait to do the surgery. I feel like we are doing the right thing by having the surgery, I feel like it is our last option. What should I do and is there statistics that say we should wait????

My middle daughter had 2 sets of ear tubes and then finally had her adnoids removed. This was due to SEVERE ear infections. She had been on every antibiotic available, but nothing ever helped! After having her adnoids removed she was extremely grumpy and in pain for several days after. We found that giving her COLD things like ice cream really helped, plus made her happy to have something sweet! You can also buy sugar free ice cream if your child is prone to being hyper and they are just as good! FYI, my daughters adnoid removal was when she was only 3 and now she is 12 and has only had 1 ear infection since! Good luck!

My daughter is 21 months old and is also having a T&A in December. I am very nervous. She has sleep apnea really bad and very large tonsils. Always sick, also. I hear all these horror stories about recovery. Is there any good stories out there? I sure would like to hear them.

My son had his tonsils/adnoids out in August at 4 years old after being sick a lot and having tonsils blocking his airway. The surgery went really fast. The worst part was the waiting for them to take him back and waiting to hear how things went but everything went really fast once they got him back there. He wokeup later that night and ate food and was doing great the next day. He got really sore and lost his voice for a couple of days but after 1 week he was wanting to play and after two weeks he was up acting like his normal self. Overall it was a good experience for being a surgery. Now he isn't sick like he was and his sleep apnea is gone.
