I thank everyone who has posted their experiences on adults who've gone through tonsillectomy. The information I've been reading helps me understand that I am not alone in this recovery process. I had my tonsils removed on the day after Christmas (just 4 days ago), I am 39 years old. I have suffered for years with tonsil stones, enlarged tonsils and cronic tonsil soar throats. The day of surgery wasn't too terrible. My tounge and back of my throat felt so swollened that I couldn't swallow my pills, so I needed liquid meds for a few days. I could see the imprint of my teeth on my tounge which was cause for alarm, so my doctor prescribed a liquid medication to reduce swelling which I take every 8 hours. I'm swallowing pills now. On day three and four things got alittle worse. My ears ache, when I talk, it feels like gauze is sticking in the back of my throat. The pain is great if my meds lap over at all. I've been drinking liquids and eating real soft foods, as directed by my doctor. I never thought I'd enjoy orange sherbet first thing in the morning-in the middle of winter! But it helps numb my throat so I can get a crushed banana, scrambled egg or soft toast down. I'm still considerably uncomfortable. My tounge and inside of my mouth has a few soars on it (maybe caused by the surgery?). I can't open my mouth very wide and my teeth are still a little achy. I'm looking forward to not waking up in the middle of the night feeling hungry, being so thursty that my dry throat hurts and in need of pain releif!
