I am 16 years old and my doctor prescribed me with topamax (twice daily 25 mg). The problem is that I always had very clean skin and never had acne, although all my friends did. However, since I am on topamax, acne on my chin have occurred. Could topamax be the cause?

I really do not think topamax is the cause for chin acne. For example, topamax suppresses apetite, so people tend to loose weight on it, but it does not cause acne. Topamax also causes some memory problems with word finding difficulty, which can be problematic for children and adolescents who are in school. You say you are 16 years old… I think this is a period when people usually get acne. It doesn’t matter you had clean skin before … this is a time you hormones jump like crazy and it is very normal to get acne. Best to treat it is to consult with dermatologist. One of home advices, do not squeeze acne, do not apply correctors on it, do not clean your skin too much, do not smoke- cigarettes are a serious cause for acne. I was smoking and had problems with acne on my face and back. As soon as I stopped, my acne situation got much better. I am still under quite an influence from quitting so, if you are a smoker, think about it…
