I just sprained my right ankle last week, which means no running for a while. Anybody else? I'd love to hear your stories!

I never knew how easily a sprain could happen... 8O

I played hoops in college... my ankles have been sprained/turned so many times that I can turn one and be fine. I mostly landed on somebodys foot and turned mine. Now a days I do not sprain my ankles becasue I guess the tendons are very weak and flexible. Things got so bad that I would turn my ankle while waliking in my sandals. I have a sneaky suspicion that I pronate because of this. Train light during your recovery period. Try writing alphabets or 1-100 using your foot. Really helps your ankle and shin strength. It helped me regain strength and gave me relief from shin splints.

this is idiotic..... cross-country practice, a short run the day before my first meet... since there was cable guys glaring at me and my friend, we decided to skip :umno: to give them something to stare at.... well, some id**t decided to use gravel to decorate the area surrounding their mail box, and some had made it's way onto the sidewalk... as you could guess, i landed on a piece of it, & hit the ground so hard that i rolled into the street and got bloody.... i wasn't embarrassed though...as soon as i mananged to get up (and figured out i hurt my ankle because it hurt like **** to stand on it) i was laughing... to this day i refuse to skip...

I completely tore up my right ankle about 3.5 years ago. It took 12-18 months before there was only minimal hint of pain in it. I didn't rehab the greatest and still ran/played basketball on it in pain, but it was a terrible sprain nonetheless. The ironic thing about that sprain is that the day I took the brace off, I did the same thing to my left ankle. I took much better care of that injury and the recovery time was more like 2 months.

I still twist and turn them from time to time, but I haven't done anything as bad as those two sprains since then.
