For about a year now i have had these sudden urges to make a high pitch squel noise most of the time i can disguise it by jst saying someones name so i say someones name in a high pitch voice rather than just squeeling however alot of people have started to say they think i may have tourettes, i sometimes shake my head very fast and squel at same time. Should i go to the doctors?
Well, I think you should. We are sometimes not able to say for ourselves but if other people have noticed this happening, then you should see a doc and determine what exactly the cause may be.
Although there is no cure for TS, there are drugs and techniques that could help you decrease some symptoms.
Different drugs are used for TS but it is not certain that every drug would work for everybody. Often drugs that are used for nervous system disorder are used in TS as well.
You could also work on some relaxing techniques because stress reduction certainly deflects certain tics.
Psychotherapy may be helpful for dealing with emotional and psychological problems that may occur due to TS but it doesn’t help tics.
It would be best if you managed to find a doctor who specializes in tourettes syndrome rather than seeing a regular GP. The truth is that the waiting lists are long with the TS experts but they’re usually worth waiting for.
Trying to suppress tics, won’t help you get rid of them. They will come out eventually.
