Can anybody tell me what characteristics a touring road bike needs to have for I am planning to buy one soon. The thing is I am changing my old touring bike it was cannondale and now I want another one so I need some info related what manufacturers are best in making touring road bikes. And it is not like I am not satisfied with cannondale but simply want to try another one.

You can always count on Bianchi . I love them –they have two types of touring road bikes the Volpe and the San Remo I just love them until recently I had the first now and I have changed it for another one and both of them are perfect wherever you want to ride them-even in snow and ice. Though if you prefer riding bikes around the city area than I advice you buy some hybrid touring road bike for those have upright posture and heavy wheels I also have hybrid one for they are perfect in heavy traffic.
