trauma to the femoral nerve

Hello. I am a guy that is 19 years old and I would like to know something more about the damage of the femoral nerve. I have a family friend that limps badly, and as I understood, that is because of the trauma to the femoral nerve. So I understand that it is a nerve in the leg, but do not understand the actual function of it.

Femoral nerve supplies the group of muscles that stretch the leg. When not working properly, it can cause limping or even loss of movement in the leg. The femoral nerve can be damaged in many ways. It can be caused by a tumor, trauma, or prolonged pressure on the nerve. It can be successfully treated in some cases (sometimes, there is no need), but in some cases not.
