treatment of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis

Can you tell me anything about treatment of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis? My husband has been diagnosed with it last month and we cannot accept the fact that the course of this illness is irreversible. Is it true that there is no cure? How much time he has left? He is 52 years old; this just does not seem fair.

I know and I am sorry for your misfortune. ALS is not an easy thing to deal with, especially when we know that his symptoms will only get worse. So, the treatment is only trying to deal with those symptoms. There is no effective cure, only medications to help him with his current troubles. Sill, there are known cases that lived for more then ten years. I guess that with the help of his doctor, he will receive the proper therapy for fighting the symptoms.
