During the period of recovery from jaundice, children should be given a lot of fruits, vegetables, both fruits and vegetable juices, honey. Juices like lemon, carrot, beet or watercress juices as well as raw foods will aid in cleansing the blood and rebuilding the liver.
If the symptoms are present, for the first few days, jaundice patients may be given unpeeled black radishes, shredded into mashed potatoes without the use of salt or fat. This also helps in liver rebuild.
When the child wakes up, s/he should be given a glass of warm lemon juice made of half a lemon and a glass of hot skimmed milk with honey.
Meals should be small and at the re3gular intervals. You should avoid dried fruits, butter, fried foods, bakery foods, creams, oils.
Barley water is considered a good remedy for jaundice. One cup of barley should be boiled in six pints of water and simmered for three hours. It should be drunk several times a day. |
