Posted: 11/23/05 - 01:00 Post subject: underweight because of hypothyroid |
|
|
My aunt has been suffering from hypothyroid for 5 years now, so we have a history in our family. For the last couple of months I have had increased cholesterol levels, cold intolerance, fatigue and it sees as if I am just losing weight and am underweight at the moment. Is it possible that I have hypothyroid as well?

One thing is for sure, you don’t have a hypothyroid disease. Hypothyroid means that your thyroid gland is making less thyroid hormone that regulates metabolism and in that case you would be gaining weight and wouldn’t be able to lose any. However, you should visit your GP in order to check these disorders that are bothering you.

| Don't listen to anybody here, I almost hit 91 lbs with hypothyroidism upon diagnosis, and i am still underweight. Many have tried to tell me i am hyperthyroid, but tests reveal hypothyroidism. Doc says you can thin or fat, doesn't matter! |

I got down to 88lbs, and i am definitely hypo not hyper. You can have a few or even sometimes no symptoms. I am considered subclinical.
I have been reading up on it and a few articles have suggested that undernourishment can actually be a cause of hypothyroidism. You would have to verify that yourself though. |

Seeing these post helped me so much. One of my biggest fears is to become overweight. And I found out I have hypothyroidism a few years ago and have been paranoid that I would get overweight and so many people told me I would. I am very underweight right now and I would rather stay this way than to gain weight.
Thanks |
