|
|
| I am a 39 year old woman and have been experiencing constant and unexplained dizziness for almost 9 months. My head is very heavy at all times and the symptom is relatively constant regardless of my position - sitting, standing, lying down, etc. I have accompanied constant fatigue and subtle nausea. I was previously a very active person and now struggle to walk just 45 minutes a day. It makes me tired but I force myself to do it. I have had a few periods where I've felt a bit better but have not experienced a day without this strange head symptom and accompanied intense fatigue for many, many months. I went to my general practitioner at the onset of the symptoms many months ago and he suggested that I had viral labrynthitus(sp). Since that time I have seen multiple specialists - infectious disease, audiologist, neurologist, ear nose throat, gastroenterologist, physiatrist, optometrist. I have had a ridiculous number of blood tests, stool samples, cat scan of my head, brain ep, hearing tests, balance and equilibrium tests...shall I go on. No one can find anything. I have pursued non-traditional treatment - homeopath, nutritionist, acupuncture, massage... Given my primary symptoms is there anything else anyone would recommend I do. I feel so helpless to just sit here and not take whatever action possible. |

I'm 34 and I have had very similar symptoms to what you are describing and similar tests and treatments. It was been going on for 8 months for me and started with a vertigo attack in June and another one in July. Since the first vertigo attack, I have had motion sickness daily. My tests have shown nothing and the ENT doctor said that I probably have some inner ear damage from a virus I had at some time in my life that is just now causing me problems. He said that my brain will learn to compensate for it.
When I feel a the jolts of motion throughout the day, my body starts to panic, which only complicates things further. I'm continuing to do my own research and would love to know if you find anything helpful! It's getting so depressing...I'm considering going on an anti-depressant/anxiety to help with that aspect of all this. |

| Hello, I am 35 and have been having fatigue and a "med head" like feeling since September '06. MRI found sinus infection, tried antibiotics and then ended up with sinus surgery in January. Did not fix. I've had EEG, MRI, numerous blood test, seen endocrinologist, Ear/Nose/Throat, Cardiologist, Primary Care, Psychiatrist, Neurologist, acupuncturist... I look perfectly healthy on paper. I am waiting on a new MRI test and a heart holter test. I'm at a point where I don't drive much as I feel like I can't focus as well (my reaction would be slowed). I'm getting a bit depressed as I can't keep the same lifestyle and I get anxious if I make plans for fear that will be a "bad" day and I won't be able to follow through. I have a small child at home and thankfully a wonderful husband who's been a big help but I miss having the energy to do the things I want. If any of you get any good leads, please let me know. |

|

I'm 32 years old. About a year ago, I developed a feeling of vertigo, dizziness and nausea along with a "heavy head" (literally) overnight. I felt constantly as if I was going up and down in an elevator. The feeling lasted for about 2 weeks and no amount of panadol would help.
I went to a doctor and he asked if I had any back or neck complaints. I did have my back out slightly and knots in my neck which and a stiff neck but compared to the vertigo it was nothing so I thought nothing of it.
Luckily he had seen this once before. He said that sometimes people go for years being incorrectly diagnosed so I was very lucky. It turned out to be that something in my neck / back was pinching a nerve that was creating these symptoms of nausea and dizziness. There is a term for it which I have forgotten.
A few trips to the acupucturist and a chinese massage therapist did nothing to help but then a visit to the Osteopath to put my back in place and the nausea was gone by the next day. It took a few more trips for my back to be completely right but it was so nice being able to feel normal again! I would recommend going and gettting your back checked by an Osteo or Chiro. |

Posted: 03/21/07 - 12:21 Post subject: Extreme Dizzines and fatigue |
|
|
| I found this forum and read several messages about people experiencing dizziness and found I am NOT alone! I have been experiencing extreme dizziness and fatigue for about 4 1/2 months now! It's horrible. I get nausea at times as well. I've been to my primary doctors and they first found fluid in my ear and treated me for that, but dizziness still stayed! They also tested my thyroid, blood sugar, and for anemia. All came back normal! They suggested I had Viral Labrynthitus (spelling?) I was then told to go to a ENT. He check me ears and did hearing tests to look for damage or anything! Hearing is 100%. They then did an ENG test to test for BPPV and other problems. NOTHING! I was fine w/ that test as well. I waited a few months and went back to my primary for help. Now they are saying they do not know what's wrong and pretty much just leaving me to fend for myself instead of trying to find another doctor to help me! I'm losing my mind! I can't stand the dizziness either! I am a person that weight lifts, runs and does all other kinds of activities. Now, i hardly am able to go to the gym, nevermind walk my dog! I can't get a job b/c I'm affraid I'll get sick at work or fall asleep. I thought, at one point, I was getting better b/c the symptoms went away for 2 days and then came back but only for a few hours. Thena bout 2 weeks ago I got hit hard again with the dizziness, fatigue and nausea. I finally went to a chiropracter and found that my C1, C2 and C7 vertabra were out of alignment. He said this can def.cause nausea and dizziness b/c it's pinching nerves and blood supply! So far still dizzy, but am having little or no nausea. I have to go back for more treatments to see if this works. I was told that this could take several treatments to get everything back in order and get the brain to start realizing what's going on. He may also try acupuncture next. I've also been told, by some family and others, that there is a type of virus that can cause all these symptoms. A friend of my aunt had it for about 5 months and it just all of a sudden went away. She couldn't do anything..people had to help her and takke her places. I'm just as frustrated as everyone else that's experiencing this and yes it sucks! So, in my case, I think it's a mixture of the vertabrea being out of wack and a virus. I did some reading on Viral Labrynthitus and in rare cases it can last months to years. I hope that's not what's happening to me or any of you! We'll get through this! I'll I'll keep you updated if I find anything, that helps, on my end! |

If you haven't yet tried Sudafed, give it a shot. I don't mean the "new" Sudafed -- get the original pseudoephedrine formula, which you might have to ask for at the pharmacy counter.
It helps with chronic sinus and/or inner ear problems (by the way, you don't have to have a stuffy nose to be suffering from a sinus problem). I've had most of the symptoms described in this thread for many years now, and Sudafed (or generic pseudoephedrine) and Advil (or any pain reliever) is the only thing that helps.
I'm fairly small, so I only take a single pill (child's dose) of Sudafed and that (along with Advil) is almost always enough to relieve my symptoms without giving me any side effects. I've been taking this combination almost daily (usually just once a day too) for years now and it almost always does the trick.
Hope you guys feel better soon |

| As many of you have said, i am having these symptoms too. Not so much dizziness anymore, but the depression is setting in because i cannot function like i used to, not to mention that it is a mood killer when no one can tell you what is wrong with you. It has made me so paranoid about having some type of disease or something life threatening. I have been going through these symptoms since september of '06 and still feal like crap, although i am not bed ridden like i was for two months. Does anyone have any ideas? All my blood work and stuff has come back clean. I know all this isn't in my head. |

| I have been going through symptoms like these plus a lot worse. No control of my blood pressure or temperture or anything. Most of you sound like from your symptoms that your autonomic system is being affected. Sometimes a chiropractor can help and other times they can make it worse so be careful. I was hit by a car 3 years ago and hit my head very hard since then I have all of these symptoms. There are lots of things that can cause this including virus and also some people are born with this problem. For a lot of people it will improve over time. With my problem the doctors I have seen think from the accident that my cervical spine is unstable. In my case it will take surgery and then it is anyone's guess whether it will work or not. The most important thing is to find a doctor who actually believes the symptoms they are seeing and will actually try to help all of you. And most of the time mri and cat scans and every other kind of test will show nothing. For some of you the symptoms you are having may be do to your blood pressure dropping when you are upright in any way. After two years I finally found a doctor who had seen this before and sent me for a tilt table test. When it affects your autonomic system it is known as dysautonomia. Everyone just hang in there and realize that there are thousands of people with the same kind of problems. The best thing you can do is stay as positive as possible because for most of you the symptoms will become better. |
