It looks like they do, just based on a quick google search. For what it's worth, I had a flu shot several months into this ordeal, and around that time developed a new symptom: pain between my eyes and along my nose. (I had the flu shot on 10/10/07, and according to medical records I first reported the face pain to my doc on 10/24/07). Could be a coincidence . . . but I am fresh out of other ideas.

I am 33 years old female that eats right and runs marathons. I had an episode of vertigo 7 days ago and ever since have a headache, dizziness or nausea every day. It's most of the day, with no pattern. Because I have an acupuncturist who is specialized in NRT (nutrition response training), he was able to find it was related to mold. He asked me if I had done anything recent to my house or had a leak in my roof. We recently had a leak come through. 90% of mold problems are found in roofs, the rest being in window frames and bathroom/kitchen fixtures. My acupuncturist has seen this before, and said it's very important to get the mold out of the house. We are having our house looked into.

I found this forum and read several messages about people experiencing dizziness and found I am NOT alone! I have been experiencing extreme dizziness and fatigue for about 4 1/2 months now! It's horrible. I get nausea at times as well. I've been to my primary doctors and they first found fluid in my ear and treated me for that, but dizziness still stayed! They also tested my thyroid, blood sugar, and for anemia. All came back normal! They suggested I had Viral Labrynthitus (spelling?) I was then told to go to a ENT. He check me ears and did hearing tests to look for damage or anything! Hearing is 100%. They then did an ENG test to test for BPPV and other problems. NOTHING! I was fine w/ that test as well. I waited a few months and went back to my primary for help. Now they are saying they do not know what's wrong and pretty much just leaving me to fend for myself instead of trying to find another doctor to help me! I'm losing my mind! I can't stand the dizziness either! I am a person that weight lifts, runs and does all other kinds of activities. Now, i hardly am able to go to the gym, nevermind walk my dog! I can't get a job b/c I'm affraid I'll get sick at work or fall asleep. I thought, at one point, I was getting better b/c the symptoms went away for 2 days and then came back but only for a few hours. Thena bout 2 weeks ago I got hit hard again with the dizziness, fatigue and nausea. I finally went to a chiropracter and found that my C1, C2 and C7 vertabra were out of alignment. He said this can def.cause nausea and dizziness b/c it's pinching nerves and blood supply! So far still dizzy, but am having little or no nausea. I have to go back for more treatments to see if this works. I was told that this could take several treatments to get everything back in order and get the brain to start realizing what's going on. He may also try acupuncture next. I've also been told, by some family and others, that there is a type of virus that can cause all these symptoms. A friend of my aunt had it for about 5 months and it just all of a sudden went away. She couldn't do anything..people had to help her and takke her places. I'm just as frustrated as everyone else that's experiencing this and yes it sucks! So, in my case, I think it's a mixture of the vertabrea being out of wack and a virus. I did some reading on Viral Labrynthitus and in rare cases it can last months to years. I hope that's not what's happening to me or any of you! We'll get through this! I'll I'll keep you updated if I find anything, that helps, on my end!

Sounds like a Chiarti 1 Malformation possibly with associated syrinx.
Chiarti 1 malformation is a fairly common cogenital (birth) defect and is suspect of hereditary influence.

Chiarti is the name of the gentleman that found/described 4 cranial malformations. Forget the other three for now. Type 1 is a malformation of the shelf upon which rests ones cerebellum - right at the base of the skull.
The Cerebral tonsils slip down through the spinal chord opening and actually rest on the spinal chord.
Many people with this type of malformation are asymptomatic. Of those that are symptomatic, the most common symptom is headache.

The headaches generally originate at the base of the skull/top of the spine, are frequently assiciated with neck pain and also shoulder pain. These rather unique headaches although nearly identical to a tension headache, are almost always brought about during some straining event...coughing, sneezing, straining during defacation, heavy lifting.

In addition, the malformation is also fairly frequently associated with another abnormality known as hydromyelia or syringomyelia or syrinx or cyst. The brain resting on the spinal chord causes a disruption of the flow of cerebrospinal fluid. The fluid backs up in a canal in your spinal column that should have closed shortly after birth. If this pocket of CSF expands, it can cause all kinds of problems like: vertigo, fatigue, tingling in hands or feet (depending on location of syrinx on spine), faintnes, nausea, hyperreflexivity and/or attaxia (weird muscle reaction), weakness, drop attack (sudden and complete loss of muscle control causing a fall).

Magnetic Resonance Imaging clearly identifies both Chiarti 1 Malformation and any associated syrinx if one exists and enough of the spine is imaged.
MRI's cause no harm.

If you have these malformations, it is relatively important that you not use chiropractic manipulation to relieve symptoms and not have lumbar or other spinal puncture in diagnosis.
Besides, MRI's don't hurt.

There is no cure for Chiari 1 Malformation but surgery, which is relatively safe, can sometimes relieve symptoms and can be important in treatment of an associated syrinx which may lead to serious complications.

Chiari 1 Malformation is a congenital defect of the hindbrain.
The herniation of the cerebellar tonsils though the foramen magnum. Your brain slides through the hole through which your spinal chord is supposed to connect.
Symptoms (in order of most often cited):
occipital headache - headache at base of skull often associated with neck and even shoulder pain. The headaches are almost always associated with strains such as sneezing, coughing, strain during defacation, WEIGHT LIFTING (someone described these headaches perfectly and then mentioned they were a weightlifter).
Neck pain and/or neck stiffness
Feeling of heavy head

and then in no particular order:
fatigue, dizziness, unbalance, difficulty swallowing, hiccoughs, sleep apnea, and some others I'm sure I missed.

Generally this is no big deal - fairly common. Some estimates are 1:1000.

Occassionally though, the cerebellum rests on the spinal chord restricting or interfering with the flow of cerebrospinal fluid.
This fluid flows up your spinal chord and around your brain (through 4 ventricals), and back out where it gets recycled.

If you have Chiari 1 malformation, it is somewhat likely that you also have the leftover canal in your spinal column which should have closed shortly after your birth. If it's there and the CSF is impeded, it can back up into your spinal column and form a cyst or syrinx. This is called hydromyelia or syringomyelia.

Symptoms:
fatigue
vertigo
dizziness
tingling in hands or feet (depending upon the location of the syrinx on your spine)

Although there is no cure for Chiari 1 malformation, surgery can sometimes relieve serious symptoms. If you have a syrinx and increasing symptoms, surgery becomes more imperative. There is a chance that the syrinx can cause irreversible damage to your spinal column including paralysis.

Why I know:
Experiencing increasing fatigue and increasing episodes of vertigo and weakness, increasing frequency of these occipital headaches I've had since puberty. Fainted/lost muscle control on Tuesday morning. Tuesday night was experiencing such vertigo and headache pain that I became nauseus and started vomiting. The pressure caused by vomiting increased the headache pain which caused more vomiting.
Dr. called in anti nausea medication.
Wednesday morning feeling worse although no longer vomiting. Went to Dr. had another fainting/drop attack in waiting room and again in exam room. Sitting upright caused extreme fatigue. Lying down caused vertigo. Change in position caused drop attack/fainting.
Blood pressure normal
Not pregnant
No flu virus
not anemic
no other cause found.
Two doctors and an emergency room visit by Thursday morning. (2 days). At this point I couldn't walk - right leg hyperreflexive (overstepping), very dizzy, head splitting...
MRI Thursday night which revealed Chiari 1 malformation and 1.5 mm cyst on my spine (syringomyelia).

Symptoms have greatly improved on their own but still can't drive and sleep 16 hours per day. Neurologist is an idiot but seeing neurosurgeon next week.

Hopefully that info may help some people on this board . . . but personally I have had multiple MRIs and CT scans of my brain/head/spine and they found nothing like that. (And nothing else to explain the dizziness, heavy head, fatigue, etc.)

23 yr old /M
i was hanging out out at a friends one night
we were smoking pot, something i had been doing for some years now
all of a sudden i was stricken with a dizzy nauseating feeling
as i left his 11th floor appt i was in the elevator and i looked in the mirror
and my eyes were super dialated.
my eyes returned to normal
this feeling has remained for about 5 days now.
i went to the doctor on day 2 and was prescribed antivert and antibiotics

one thing i noticed was the feeling, it was familiar to be because i got it a few times prior after smoking pot out of aluminum/tin foil

while at my friends we were just smoking out of glass. but this is when i had the feeling begin.
needeless to say since then i have given up smoking pot (and cigarettes) cold turkey cause i was quite worried

over the past 5 days i havnt done much and i have fallen asleep a few times throughout the day and woken up an hour or 2 later sweating profusely.

most of the time when i wake up i feel normal , but when i get up and start moviing around the feeling creeps back into my head.

my head feels like its full of air and sometimes the back of my neck and head aches ( minor - to more severe when trying to go to sleep at night )

its day 5 and my right eye seems to be watery and earlier while on the phone with my mother ( phone on left ear ) my right ear began to gurgle.

alot of pople said its a head cold but that doesnt make sense to me because theres no sinus cavities in the back of my neck/head ( right? )

the severity of the dizzyness/nausea varies throughout the day randomly

i also have pretty much no appetite so this also worries me

also i have an area of dry tough skin at the base of my skull on the back of my head im guessing and hoping it is eczema like i have on my elbows and eyelids

thanks

I have been experiencing the exact same symptoms as all of you out there. I had this for three and a half years, I am 38. For what it’s worth, upon my request, my dentist took an x-ray of my whole head and I found out that one of my wisdom teeth was growing 2 to 3 mm into my sinus cavity. This is what was causing what felt like a sinus infection that never went away. Also turns out that the root was putting pressure on my ear drum and causing the nausea, dizzy spells, woozy stomach, fainting, foggy etc… I had the tooth taken out about a month ago and I have been feeling better and better each day. Remember that it had three years of damage so it’s not going to heal over night. I am also taking Siberian gin sing to help with the healing process and it is working great. I am not a doctor so I can’t say that all of you have the same problem but I find it interesting that the majority of us are at the same age… the age of wisdom teeth coming out or getting impacted. I hope that this helps all of you… my dentist said that this happens a lot more than you can imagine.
Remember to take the gin sing!

John
Also from Kelowna Canada.
